INDIAN ESM Manhandled at Jantar Mantar on 14 Aug 2015

Indian ESM were protesting against BJP Govt inaction on promised OROP.  Widows were also present.  BJP ruled NDMC and BJP Govt at the centre (Delhi police being under control of Central Home Ministry) humiliated the protesting veterans, most of them octogenarians.  They were manhandled, their pockets/shirts sporting  medals were torned apart, they were dragged and pushed by Delhi police working under the orders of the BJP.  Shame,  you BJP shame on you hypocrites.

NATION UNGRATEFUL

1.  Whatever the ESM may do, India does not listen to you veterans.  Does it?  If it did you wouldn't be on such a hunger strike for past 60 days.  Just look at the state of affairs yourself.  How much attention is being paid to you by the media - print or electronic?  How many politicians or beaurocrats
Or for that matter, any social activists, NGOs, political leaders of parties significant or otherwise have come to look you up or has tried to espouse your cause?  Why don't you accept defeat for you are not wanted.  As a fauji it was your duty to lay down your life, sacrificing all your ease comfort, well being or for that matter your future or that of your family's future.  You have done nothing beyond ordinary for which you were paid.  If you were paid less or retired earlier or less pension is being given to you, you had opted for the same.  Like it or not you lump it or to hell with you.

2.  Stupid faujis you don't deserve anything beyond what you get.  You are to be used and forgotten, you like it or not.

                                               DOUBTS ON OROP

1.   Have been hearing about a lots of doubts among elements of the Govt as to modalities of defining the OROP.

2.   They want that number of years of service in the particular rank, of which an ESM is to draw pension, should be considered.  If two colonels have put in seven years of service in that rank, both should draw equal pension.  Problems:-

(a). Time scale Ranks in the defence forces have not been in force except in case of ranks upto          Majors.  However,  officers used to pick up rank of a Major on completion of 13 years of service, if cleared promotion exams.  Capt. after completion of Six years of service.  Among jawans, the situation was still worse.  They were not given any timescale ranks at all.  In the same unit one would become a Naik with five years of service and another with 15 years or he may retire without becoming Naik also.

(b). Selection grade Ranks for officers.  A Lt Col used to be a selection grade rank.  More than 50% officers would not become Lt Col also.  Colonel used to be the second selection grade rank.  Now a days an officer becomes a Lt Col with a time scale service of 13 years.  Now a days an officer becomes a colonel with just about 14 and a half years of service but earlier one used to pick up rank of a colonel with about 21 years plus service.  Hence, if one was to retire after a total of 30 years of service, a colonel of yesteryears would put in just about eight or nine years in that rank.  A colonel of the present day would put in 16 years of service in the same rank.  Thus there would be a wide gap in the pension of the two colonels for no fault of the officers but only because of Govt policies.

3.  In view of the above disparities due to service conditions alone number of years of service in a particular rank should not be considered at all.  Consideration of total length of service rendered for OROP would be more appropriate and create less heart burns/litigation.
